This has put pressure on revenues and in many cases has led to the shedding of staff at all levels and a freeze on recruitment. The more recent improvement in stock market conditions has meant that confidence is now returning to the recruitment market. There will always been demand for good fund managers and successful teams.

We anticipate that there will be a continuation of M&A activity within the sector as large financial institutions divest themselves of their asset managers to raise capital and focus on core activities. There may therefore be further consolidation in the industry. However, product innovation persists and the desire to sell product continues unabated.
